Automatic check numbering

I have come from Windows and I have been a very long time user of MoneyCounts (using their "fund accounting" option - which is similar to envelope or bucket methodology.) In MoneyCounts when a user entered a new check transaction the program automatically filled in the next check number in sequence. Does MoneyWell have something similar?

Currently it does not, but I do remember back when the forums where in google groups this was requested. Not sure where this is on the request list (or if it is), but agree it would be a nice addition.

    Hope this helps

It's still on the request list but may take a couple releases down the road to appear. So many people have stopped using checks that the demand for check-related features is not as high as some electronic connection ones.

I'm also planning to add duplicate check number alerts.

Just for your information, french users still use check then this feature is very important. Thanks to Kevin to consider this feature in the next release.

That helps to know. I get conflicting information about the use of checks in various countries. Thanks.

Kevin, please add me to the list requesting this feature. While I don't write checks often, it's still a nice feature to have.

I'm looking for a new personal finance software package to replace Quicken. I waited and waited until the much anticipated release last month and after having played with it for 15 minutes, I sent it back. I'm intrigued with your software and have just used the demo to see how I like it. Love the look and feel, but after reading some posts....what gives with omitting the opportunity to include a check number when making a new transaction? I get it that printing checks isn't a priority, but my housekeeper doesn't take debit cards, nor does my land lord. So with your software, it appears that I have to input the transaction and then go back and add the check number. How is that efficient in these modern times?

Shawn: You can enter a check number with a new transaction. As soon as you pick the type "Check" you have that option.

MoneyWell doesn't offer automatic check numbering because that feature never worked for me in my household so I didn't include it yet. Both my wife and carry a checkbook and so the numbers are always out of sequence. The automatic sequence in Quicken always created more work for me because I had to remember to correct the number.

Got it. I totally agree -- automatic numbering is a pain. I turned
that feature off a long time ago. And I see how it works in
transaction entry...so that's awesome. Any idea if you will still add
a check printing feature eventually? I know it's not high on your
priority list, but checks are still a bit of a necessity for a few
transactions a month for me and they look a lot cooler when the
computer types them than when I hand write them and then have to
    address an envelope by hand....

Thanks again for the reply. I'm buying your software later today and
as a new customer...I'd love the check printing feature! ;)

    Hi...

I just purchased Moneywell and look forward to using it. Sorry, but I
do have one last question. I see strings of communication in 2008
about iPhone that is "coming soon." It's now 2010 and I don't see an
App in the iTunes store. Is it still in development? Is it
    coming...soon?

Thanks and have a great weekend!
