How is the "Timing" setting used on buckets, spending plans, and fill buckets?

The timing of a bucket is used to control when money is allocated to it. There are three possible settings:

  1. All Month
  2. First Half
  3. Second Half

Things that you spend money on throughout the month should be set to "All Month." On the other hand, if you pay a bill in the first or second half of the month, choose the "First Half" or "Second Half" settings, respectively.

When you use Fill Buckets, MoneyWell looks at the Fill Date setting in the upper left of that panel to fill your buckets properly. This date is assigned to the money flows created after you click Save and it's also used to determine if the fill is being done in the first or second half of the month.

Fills done in the first half of the month will fill all the buckets set to "First Half" fully and the buckets set to "All Month" halfway. Those buckets set to "Second Half" are ignored. If you fill buckets more than once in the first half, MoneyWell won't fill the all month buckets if they already have been half filled.

Fills done in the second half will fill all buckets that still need money to the top.

If you don't have enough cash to fill all the buckets according to the above rules, MoneyWell will work from the top of the list down based on the Priority setting for each bucket (the first column shows the priority). You can change the priority of buckets simply by dragging them up and down the list to reorder them.
